J.K. Simmons, with his deep, husky, and unmistakable voice, is brilliantly in-keeping with this mountain of a man, and while this is only an animation, Simmons does such a good job of anchoring this vivacious flick with his attention-demanding undertones. What is more exceptional is how the Simmons version of Santa is able to delve into the character. The movie explores his origins and exactly why Santa is a toymaker, and giving him a wife who died before they could have kids gives Santa Claus a sense of sadness that he only finds happiness when giving to others.
