Flow, an animated feature following a cat’s journeyacross a post-apocalyptic world, has beenpicked up for international release after winning three awards at the recent Annecy Film Festival. Directed by Latvian filmmaker Gints Zilbalodis - who was nominated for an Annie-Award forAway-Flowis set after a terrible flood has ravaged the world and humanity has adapted to survive among the new oceanic landscape. “The world seems to be coming to an end, teeming with the vestiges of a human presence. Cat is a solitary animal, but as its home is devastated by a great flood, he finds refuge on a boat populated by various species, and will have to team up with them despite their differences. In the lonesome boat sailing through mystical overflowed landscapes, they navigate the challenges and dangers of adapting to this new world.”

PerVariety,Flowhas been picked up for international release in several territories. The new animated film is being compared to pastOscar-nomineesRobot DreamsandI Lost My Body,as a strong contender for next year’s awards season. Charades, the company responsible for overseeingFlow’s international distribution, have described the film as an:

“Allegory of the social and political situations we face in these difficult times, through the animals and their misadventures. Individualism and collectivism collide within this band.”

Flow Currently Has a Purr-fect Score on Rotten Tomatoes

The new animated movie premiered at Cannes, before being screened at Annecy, and was quickly met with rave reviews. While only seven reviews have been published onRotten Tomatoesso far, the ones that have been released are from major outlets like THR and Variety. After its premiere, the film sits at aperfect 100% critics score on RT.

The Hollywood Reporter’s reviewpraised the film’s theme, and declared that, despite it being aimed at children,Flowshould be watched by audiences of all ages. Their review reads:

“This is a wonderful film for children, its example of the give and take of friendship and the importance of mutual trust embedded organically in the narrative with clarity but without over-emphasis. It’s no less a film for adults…”

Netflix Becomes the New Home of Canceled Max Series With Perfect Rotten Tomatoes Score

Netflix has provided a new home for a “perfect” animated series with the potential to develop a second season.

Meanwhile,Varietypraised director Gints Zilbalodis' work in crafting a beautifully poignant and emotionally relatable groupof animalistic protagonists. Their review reads:

“It’s as if Zilbalodis decided to dump an ocean’s worth of water in the Uncanny Valley. Still, animal-loving viewers will bond almost instantly with the cat and its motley companions.”

Before creatingFlow, Gints Zilbalodis directed his first film at 24 years old.Away(2019), following a boy and a bird’s journey to escape a mysterious island, won the Contrechamp Prize for Best Feature Film at the Annecy Film Festival. The film then went on to earn Zilbalodis an Annie Awards nomination, after being screened at over 85 festivals.
