Chris Hemsworthhas revealed he was “jealous” when brotherLiam Hemsworthlooked set to possibly be cast in the role ofThor. The MCU star took part in a lie detector interview forVanity Fair, and was asked about Liam also auditioning to play the Marvel Cinemative Universe’s God of Thunder. As well as confirming it to be true, Chris also explained how their paths never really crossed during the audition process for the role.

It is hard to imagine anyone other than Chris Hemsworth playing the role of Thor, but things could have been different ifthe new star ofThe Witcher, Liam, had managed to nab the role from under his brother’s nose. Asked during his interview about Liam auditioning, Chris said:

Tom Hiddleston and Chris Hemsworth as Loki and Thor

Yes, he did.

Thor

“No, ‘cause I was told I didn’t have the part at that point, so I was excited for him. A little jealous maybe, but I was excited for him. Then when I was allowed to re-audition, it was when he was out of the picture. So we were never neck and neck. It was either I was involved, then wasn’t, and he was involved then wasn’t, then I was involved.”

Marvel’s Thor Franchise Became a Hemsworth Family Affair

Although Liam Hemsworth didn’t get the role of Thor, brother Chris is not the only member of the Hemsworth family to have taken on a role in the Marvel franchise. Luke Hemsworth played “Actor Thor” in the play-within-a-movie segments ofThor: RagnarokandThor: Love and Thunder. While many fans have since voiced the opinion that the role should have been played by Liam, given his original audition as Thor, Luke’s appearance being the least like Chris ended up being one of the reasons he took on the bit-part; playing into the joke of the “actor” versions of the characters looking little like their counterparts.

InThor: Love and Thunder, the family connections expanded again. Chris Hemsworth’s wife, Elsa Pataky appeared in the movie, playing a Wolf Woman who Thor has a romantic moment with during a montage of his intergalactic adventures in the movie. She also stepped in for Natalie Portman during some reshoot scenes when the actress was not available.

Tom Hiddleston and Chris Hemsworth Return as Loki and Thor in Marvel’s What If…? With Fans Demanding a Live-Action Reunion

The latest episode of What If…? sees Chris Hemsworth and Tom Hiddleston voicing Thor and Loki, much to the delight of fans.

Additionally, Hemsworth’s daughter, India Rose, took on the titular role of Love in the film, and could well go on to appear in the next, and possibly final, outing for Thor in the near future. Meanwhile, one of his other children also made an appearance in the movie, along with the children of Portman and Christian Bale.

Thor: Love and Thundermay have been a low point for the MCU’s 2022 movies, withHemsworth recently accepting responsibilityfor making the character into a parody of himself. It seems like he is ready to redeem himself with one more solo outing, and a likely final appearance in one of the upcoming Avengers movies.
