Death Strandingwill have an animated movie with an independent plot, and a tone similar to the recent animated adaptation ofPredator.
The Animated Adaptation of Death Stranding Will Be An Original Story
In one week, on June 26,Death Stranding 2: On the Beachwill finally land on PS5, ready to take the saga to new heights.
It’s one of the games of the year, and also a prelude to the franchise’s expansion. We’re not just referring to the new Death Stranding clothing line, nor the curious scarves released in Japan.

Death Stranding will have two adaptations: a live-action one, produced by A24, and an animated version for which new details have been revealed.
Deadline reports that Kojima Productions has signed off on the development of the Death Stranding adaptation, in collaboration with American animation company Line Mileage.

Two Adaptations: Live-Action and Animated
It will also feature a top-tier screenwriter: Aaron Guzikowski, responsible for the science-fiction seriesRaised by Wolves, produced by Ridley Scott.
But no one should expect an adaptation of the first game or a return to Sam Porter’s adventures, as this version will present an original story.

It will be set, however, in the mysterious world of Death Stranding, with its cataclysmic universe and the connections between the living and the dead, as shown in the recent game summary.

Creative Team Behind the Project
The creators of this version want to make a film for adults, in the style ofPredator: Badlands, recently released on Disney Plus.
Guzikowski, who also wrote the acclaimedPrisoners, has nothing but praise for the new project.
“I love the world ofDeath Stranding, it’s so creative, darkly beautiful, and at the same time hopeful,” he says. “It’s an honor that Hideo Kojima has asked me to create new stories in such a fertile universe.”
At the same time, A24 is working on the live-action movie, directed by Michael Sarnoski, the director ofA Quiet Place: Day One.
In this case, it’s unknown whether the adaptation will follow the events of the first game, or if it will feature actors like Norman Reedus and Mads Mikkelsen, the originals fromDeath Stranding.
What does Kojima Have in Mind?
He himself will make his directorial debut with an original film, but only after completing his current projects.
AfterDeath Stranding 2, the creator is preparingO.D., a horror game for Xbox. That will be followed by his return to the espionage genre withPhysint, although that’s a long-term project.
We’re about to get twoDeath Strandinggames and two adaptations—a perfect way to dive deeper into one of the most creative universes in video game history.
