Season 7 of HBO’s monster hitGame of Throneswill feature a cameo by pop musicianEd Sheeran. Sheeran has recently begun to spread his wings from acoustic guitar playing heartthrob into the acting world. His first role was in a New Zealand soap opera and in 2015 he was tapped for a reoccurring role in Kurt Sutter’sThe Bastard Executioneras the ambitious and deadly Sir Cormac. But now Sheeran has landed a cameo role that he has been trying to land for years. It was announced at theGame of Thronespanel at SXSW in March that Sheeran will make a cameo inGame of Thrones Season 7and this week we received some information from Sheeran regarding his dream role.

Sheeran recently spoke to Tom Green on The Hits Radio viaHeat Worldand shed some light on his upcoming performance. Read what Sheeran had to say.

“I just do a scene withMaisie. I sing a song and then she goes, oh, that’s a nice song.”

Apparently [Game of Thrones} stars Maise Williams andSophie Turnerhave been trying to get Sheeran on the show for quite some time now, but his schedule never aligned with production of the show. The recording artist made sure to schedule his tours around the production ofGame of Thronesthis time around. Sheeran had previously told theDaily Starthat he does not die and his role last about 5 minutes. Let’s hope this cameo role goes better than his reoccurring role inThe Bastard Executioner.

Game of Throneshas a long history with musicians and the show. Kristian Nairn who playsHodoris also a guitarist and DJ. The show has also gone out of its way to cast outside musicians in cameo roles. The heavy metal band Mastodon showed up as wildlings while Coldplay’s drummer Will Champion plays, you guessed it, drums in a fictional band leading up to the Red Wedding. Icelandic band Sigur Ros also played a wedding band and Scott Ian of thrash metal act Anthrax got the best role of them all. Ian was made into a White Walker, the first American transformed into the ghoulish characters fromGame of Thrones.

Sheeran’s music career is at an all time high, so it makes perfect sense for him to hook up with one of the hottest shows in television history. His most recent album Divide was released in March of 2017,and sold 322,000 records in the United States alone. Though those numbers may not look big for moviegoers who are used to seeing debuts in the millions, that 322,000 was enough to give Sheeran the number 1 record spot as well as the top record of 2017 up to that point. However in the United Kingdom, Sheeran’s Divide sold 672,000 albums in its first week while simultaneously having an unprecedented 16 singles in the top 20 singles chart.

It is early 2017 and it has already been a huge year for Sheeran and his success shows no sign of stopping any time soon. Speaking of success that doesn’t seem to die down,Game of Thronesseason 7 is set to premiere on July 16th, 2017. As previously reported, the 7th season will only have 7 episodes and contain mostly original material not found in George R. R. Martin’s books.
