The next season of Everdark Sovereigns have come with the latest patch inElden Ring Nightreign, and the first Night Lord we get to face down is Maris. The Augur expedition wasn’t exactly the most exciting, and certainly frustrated those who weren’t ranged, but FromSoftware is hoping to fix this issue by introducing a new weapon that basically makes everything you collected throughout the mission pointless. While not as easy as the original, the Everdark Sovereign Maris is certainly not something to look down on.

Similar to the jellyfish, these bubbles are explosive. The difference, though, is that they explode almost immediately upon touching the ground.

Maris will throw himself at one player.

A strong and fast projectile attack that leaves a massive delayed AOE beneath the ground when it hits.

Augur was arguably the easiest Night Lord in Elden Ring Nightreign, but with its Everdark Sovereign upgrade, it becomes one of the most annoying. This is primarily because, even though he is bigger and flies much higher, you are given a new type of weapon that is only used on this boss, one that takes quite a bit of time to charge and use.

At the start of the true fight, you will be given a Legendary +3 version of your base weapon, making everything picked up since then obsolete. This is because this will come with the iconic Storm Ruler trait, a weapon that has been with the Souls franchise since Demon’s Souls. If you know about this weapon, or at least the trait, you will know that it attacks at a distance.

The Storm Ruler attack can be used in succession, throwing smaller, faster magical attacks that consume FP, something that’s good for when you’re close to Maris. HoldingLT/L2for almost exactly five seconds, you will see a special effect go into the blade, allowing you to throw out a giant vertical attack towards Maris, one that covers an immense amount of distance. It does a great deal of damage and definitely should be your focus. It should be noted, as well, that even though using the normal ranged slashes consumes FP, you’re able to regain FP by chagrining up the Storm Ruler skill.

The main attack Maris will constantly be throwing at the players is its explosive bubbles. Similar to the original fight where it would send out explosive jellyfish, these bubbles will land on the ground and almost immediately explode. Taking a hit or two isn’t too bad, but getting surrounded by them isn’t too farfetched, and they will immediately drain your health to nothing in no time. With that said, while he’s doing this, you are able to pop the bubbles if you use your charged attack, making it less of a threat. Unfortunately, this requires a lot of patience and timing.

Similar to the original fight, Maris will sometimes lay down for a little nap. You will need to use your ultimate to avoid sleeping, something that can be timed as it’s much faster and Maris will awake fairly quickly. He also has a similar charge attack that he hurls himself towards a player, dealing damage in that direction.

As for some of the newer attacks, Maris will perform a large beam attack on one player. As soon as this happens, sprint to the left or right of where it goes off because it will leave a massive delayed explosion where the laser hit.

Throughout the first phase, and going into the second, Maris will send out massive waves. In the original fight, these were easy little puddles of water in comparison, as you could roll through them. In the Everdark, it’s about three times your size in height and will take you sprinting quite some time to the left or right to it. That’s basically what you will need to do to avoid them; as soon as it appears, sprint out of the way otherwise it will consistently tick away at your HP. You can run directly into it provided you sprint to the other side as fast and far as possible.

During the second phase, the big threat becomes the little orbs Maris summons to his side. They will constantly be shooting all three of the players at once, so verify to constantly move left and right. These orbs can be targeted and should be as they not only become a huge headache, but if you take all of them down, the newly reformed Maris will collapse and become vulnerable. This should be your first goal.

Really, this fight is more of a patience test than anything else. Keep charging your blade and use the Storm Ruler ability to chip him down. When the orbs come out, make it your top priority to take them down, all while dodging the bubbles.
