Frostpunk 2has released a revised roadmap for the coming months. The challenging and immersive strategy game will arrive onPS5 and Xbox Seriesthis summer, and before that, in May, it will receive its first free update. Three DLCs are planned.
Frostpunk 2 Arrives on Consoles This Summer
The first major free update will launch on May 8, introducing adjustments to city management and paying tribute to the organizational structure established by the first inhabitants of New London. Following this update, PS5 and Xbox Series players will be able to access the game in the summer, although no specific release date has been given yet.
In addition to the console launch and the free update,11 Bit Studioshas prepared an ambitious content plan for 2025. In the fall, theSpectrum DLCwill be released, a content expansion that, according to the studio, “will help us better understand ourselves and the inhabitants of our great city in unexpected ways.”
Later, theAurora DLCwill be released, though its exact date will depend on the progress of other content in development. If the schedule is delayed, it could be postponed to 2026. Looking even further ahead, athird expansionis planned for 2026, though no details about its content have been revealed yet. 11 Bit Studios will continue to share more information as development progresses.
A Sequel That Elevates the Formula
Frostpunk 2 is an excellent sequel to a unique and raw strategy game that made you feel small despite being the ruler of a city. It pushed you to make tough decisions and took the city-building genre to an entirely different place than usual.
This sequel retains all of that while refining gameplay aspects and introducing theCouncil, adding a new layer of depth by forcing players to manage the city’s politics—forming alliances, honoring or betraying agreements, and maintaining a delicate balance of power while struggling to keep the city alive through another blizzard.
There’s no doubt thatFrostpunk 2is shaping up to be one of the best strategy and management games of the year.
