Anime fans weighed in on the series, with ecstatic responses filling the internet. Many individuals applauded the casting director’s efforts for their cast choices. The series has done its best to keep the tale consistent with the anime, which depicts the thrilling adventures of Monkey D. Luffy, a young pirate who dreams of discovering the fabled Gol D. Rogers’ wealth.
Along with the story, the creators have also tried to get the perfect actors to play the roles of the characters in the series. And they very well have achieved this goal. The cast of the series includes Iñaki Godoy as Monkey D. Luffy, Emily Rudd as Nami, Mackenyu as Roronoa Zoro, Jacob Romero Gibson as Usopp, and Taz Skylar as Sanji. Each actor has been applauded by the fans. Especially Mackenyu who plays the role of Roronoa Zoro, one of the fan favorites.

Mackenyu’s unique approach to playing Zoro
In an interview with Netflix, Mackenyu talked about his experience of playing the role that he has idolized since the beginning. He really wanted to prove himself worthy of the role. He said:
“I wanna do my best to show what Zoro and I can do. I hope the fans see the great attention to detail, transforming Zoro into a live action series.”
He explains that he has experience using two swords simultaneously and has done live shows using swords in the past, but when it comes to three, that’s a different story. The training that he did forOne Piecewas specific for Zoro and the skills needed to be him. Even the creator Steven Maeda praised Mackenyu and explained how amazing Mackenyu’s swordmanship is and how he brought a lot of his own style and experience.

Steven Maeda Talks About Developing the Character of Zoro
Creator Maeda also explained the work that went into bringing Zoro to real life. He talked about the huge challenges they faced in going from manga, from two-dimensional panels to three-dimensional live action. Talking about Zoro and Mackenyu he said:
“And how does Zoro fight with three swords in his mouth? What are the actual practical limitations of that? There are a lot of things to figure out to see, ‘How is this going to be able to transfer, and can we do this? Is it gonna look goofy? Is it something that we can pull off and have people go, ‘That’s cool! Maybe it’s not exactly how I pictured it, but that’s a really cool interpretation.’?’ So those are the things that I was really concerned with, is trying to make sure that everything translated across.”
Along with anime and manga, Zoro from the live-action has also become the fans’ favorite because of the hard work and passion of Mackenyu and the creators of the series. All the episodes are available to stream on Netflix.
