Back in August, LucasFilm announced that they will release a brand new3D Collector’s EditionofStar Wars: The Force Awakens, which debuts internationally on October 31 before arriving in the U.S. on November 15. Earlier today, we showed you a deleted scene from this upcoming release, and now we have a new clip with commentary from directorJ.J. Abramsdiscussing one of the film’s most pivotal moments.
The scene in question is where the nefariousKylo Renkills his own father, Han Solo (Harrison Ford), towards the end of this box office blockbuster.J.J. Abramsteases in this commentary track that young Kylo was actually being swayed against killing his father. The filmmaker also revealed that they were working on this scene for quite some time, and it was actuallyJon Kasdan,Lawrence Kasdan’s son, who helped them figure out this scene. “People have asked me if I think that Kylo Ren was just playing with him the whole time, that he meant to kill him from the beginning. The truth is, I think, Kylo Ren, at this moment, is actually being convinced to walk away from this.Snokeis, as Han says, using him, and I think that somewhere, Ben knows this, but I think that he can’t accept it. Deep down, he has gone too far.”
