The return to the world of espionage and tactical brilliance ofMetal Gear Solidmay be coming soon, but comes with a word of caution. Players are being warned that some elements of the collection may be “deemed out of date”, however, the notice assures fans of the original version that the “creator’s original vision” will be preserved and remain untouched. This indecision between modernization or preserving the essence of the original vision is intriguing. But it does suggest that theMaster Collectionwill be an experience that pays homage to the iconic series, while also recognizing the gaming landscape as backward compared to society’s constant evolution as a whole.

Metal Gear Solid’s Master Collection May Be Considered Outdated and Offensive by Some Players, Developers Warn
As reported byGamesRadar, the upcomingMetal Gear Solid: Master Collection Volume 1due for release on October 24th opens with a content warning message at its start. It warns players that some of its content may not be considered appropriate these days. Each game has remained unaltered, causing some scenes to have a different impact on those who still don’t know them, or remember what they had 25 years ago.
The message reads:
“This game contains expressions and themes which may be considered outdated, however, these elements have been included without alteration to preserve the historical context in which the game was made and the creator’s original vision. Player discretion is advised.”
Hideo Kojima’s name wasn’t specifically named, but the phrase “creator’s original vision” directly harks back to him as the game’s creator.

The notice also doesn’t make it clear which scenes they fear will be the target of criticism and considered outdated, but knowing the franchise one might guess that it’s about how the series portrays some female characters. Especially in the case of the first game, where Snake frequently beats up women in combat situations and when Dr. Naomi tells the protagonist that he can “do a strip search” on her if he completes his task in the story.

Another less serious problem may be related to the occasional use of cigarettes by characters in the series. Mainly in specific moments when the player can use cigarettes to “calm down Snake’s nerves” to facilitate certain parts of the game, suggesting that smoking is nothing more than something beneficial to people. Situations like these were common in pop culture productions at the time, but there has been a revolution of societal thinking. Respect toward women, not treating them like sexual objects, and knowledge that smoking is harmful to health, should (or should) be in everyone’s mind.

The game collection will include the first threeMetal Gear Solidtitles, the original MSX2 versions ofMetal GearandMetal Gear 2, and the NES gamesMetal GearandSnake’s Revenge. There will also be more additional content including: comics, scripts, strategy guides for each game, a digital soundtrack, and books with information about the story and characters.
So, if you intend to secure the collection, get ready for a very nostalgic and equally problematic journey arriving on October 24th for Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series X/S, PS5, PS4, and PC via Steam.
