With the recent success ofSinners, as well as his many other blockbuster hits, it feels likeMichael B. Jordanhas free rein to pick his next project. Jordan has already tried his hand at directing withCreed III, and he has frequently expressed a desire to get behind the camera again. So, what does Michael B. Jordan want to direct?Sinners 2?Creed 4? A Killmonger MCU prequel? Nope, the long-timeanimefan is desperate to bring one of his favorite series to life in live-action, and it’s the perfect choice.
During a recent interview withVulture, Michael B. Jordan revealed that, alongside his next directorial feature,Thomas Crown Affair, he is desperate to direct a live-action anime adaptation. “Maybe, find an anime- maybe do a live-action version of that anime,” Jordan said. Michael B. Jordan wears his anime influences proudly. During the press tour forCreed III, the actor/director repeatedly mentioned the influence of shows likeDragon Ball Z,Naruto, andHajime no Ippoon the film’s fight scenes.

Ryan Coogler’s Vampire Epic ‘Sinners’ Sets Digital Streaming Release Date
Ryan Coogler’s latest film will be heading to digital storefronts soon after a phenomenal box office performance.
But being inspired by anime and directing a live-action adaptation are two separate things. Live-action anime adaptations have become controversial among fans of the medium, predominantly because of how badly they turn out. Aside from Netflix’sOne Piece, most live-action anime adaptations end up as a shell of the original series. Sticking with the theme of shells, the2017 live-actionGhost in the Shellis one of the most prominent examples, but other failures include Netflix’sCowboy BebopandBet, and the notoriously terribleDragonball Evolution.

For Michael B. Jordan, directing a live-action anime would be both a dream come true and a break from his usual projects. “I love animation and anime,” he continued. “So maybe something around that space. Kind of cleanse the palette.”
Which Anime Should Michael B. Jordan Direct?
The list of which anime deserve live-action adaptations is almost endless. But, given Michael B. Jordan’s personal history with the medium, there are a few stand-out favorites. During the interview, Jordan revealed that he’s currently enjoying the ongoing third season ofFire Force. He also loves the insane, mind-bogglingFateseries, and its most recent entry,Fate/Stay Night.
Fire Forcewould be an excellent contender for a live-action adaptation. The series is set in a world where humans can randomly spontaneously combust and turn into Infernals, with the Special Fire Force divisions, made up of firefighters with pyrokinetic powers, battling against them. The action in the anime and Atsushi Ohkubo’s manga is insane and could be excellent on the big screen.

Dragon Ballshould probably never be given an anime adaptation, following the failed 2007 movie. But, Michael B. Jordan is also a big fan ofNaruto, which could make for an interesting adaptation if done right. The most obvious choice would be the boxing seriesHajime no Ippo. However, considering Michael B. Jordan has already stepped into the ringthree times in theCreedtrilogyand directed one of the entries, that might not be as much of a palate cleanser as the actor is hoping for.
