Monster Hunter Wilds Charge Blade Build for Beginners– In this Monster Hunter Wilds Charge Blade Build, I am going to show you aCharge BladeandGunlancebuild I found effective to use early game. This build allows you to use the attacking power of the charge blade and gunlance while minimizing the drawback of low mobility from using these weapons. With both of the weapons having access to a shield and the ability to perform perfect guards and power clashes, this build can provude both strong offence and defence to make the early game a piece of cake.

Monster Hunter Wilds Charge Blade Build for Beginners

This Monster Hunter Wilds Charge Blade Build focuses on increasing the mobility of the charge blade and the gunlance as both weapons are powerful but can be limited by their lack of mobility in some situations. Builds using weapons with shields will most likely block attacks most of the time rather than evade. However, there are certain attacks from large monsters that you cannot block and must evade, creating an inherent weakness in these weapons. This build will help with evasion in such instances by providing the weapons with mobility to remedy this inherent weakness.

Monster Hunter Wilds Charge Blade Build - Early Charge Blades

The primary weapon for this build is the Charge Blade, known as the most technical weapon in the MH community.

The charge blade that we will be using is the Hyperguard I from the Ore Tree. The reason I chose this weapon is because of the skillRapid Morph. What this skill does is it increases the speed at which your morph weapon swaps between each form, with each subsequent level in the skill increasing the speed of the swap and the morph attack damage. Since we are going for speed and mobility with this build, this skill fits perfectly as it makes our downtime much shorter and even adds a little extra damage.

A great alternative to the Hyperguard Charge Blade is the Bone Strongarm II from the Bone Tree, since it has 2 skills which work great for this build;Attack Boostwill give you damage that increases your attack by +3, andLoad Shellsprovides a speed buff which increases your phial reloading speed.

Both of these charge blades have impact phials, which will not affect your early game progress since most of the monsters you will be facing will not really require elemental damage to go down easily.

Monster Hunter Wilds Charge Blade Build - Early Gunlances

For the secondary weapon, we will be using the Gunlance. The Gunlance offers players with an even greater defensive power than the charge blade, as well as similar firepower and monster part breaking potential.

The Gunlance we’ll be using in this build is the Triple Bayonet I from the Ore tree. The Triple Bayonet can fire up to three shells before needing a reload. The shelling type is the long shelling type and as such its shelling range will be farther compared to other types.

The Triple Bayonet’s skill,Guard Up, will help with your guarding ability by allowing you to somewhat guard against attacks that are ordinarily unblockable. Keep in mind that this only reduces the damage of such attacks and does not entirely negate the damage, depending on the skill level, which at level 1 is 30%. However, it is better to evade such attacks rather than block it and blocking should only be done as the last resort when you are in a situation where you cannot evade.

Alternatively, you can use the Bone Gunlance II from the Bone Tree but you will trade off a little bit of shelling range. The Bone Gunlance’s shelling type is wide and as such it will have a shorter effective range compared to the triple bayonet. It can also fire only two shells before needing a reload, so you would have to rely more on your thrust rather than your shellings if you use this weapon.

That being said, the Bone Gunlance II is a good option if you are looking for a little more stamina for your guards since its skill,Guard, reduces the stamina depletion of guarding by 15%. It also has the added benefit of having some extra attack from its attack boost skilll, similar to the Bone Strongarm IIcharge blade.

If you are looking for more of an offensive Gunlance alternative, then the Quematrice Culebrina I from the Quematrice tree is another great early game Gunlance for this build.

The shelling type of the Quematrice Culebrina I is normal and as such although it won’t reach as far as the Triple Bayonet, but it has more range than the Bone Gunlance. The shellings will do a little more damage since the shelling power is Slightly Strong, and it can fire up to six shells before needing a reload, so this one is for players who are looking for a more shell centric gameplay using the Gunlance.

The Quematrice Culebrina will also help with your Guards as it has the “Guard” skill, same as the Bone Gunlance, which will reduce your stamina depletion by 15% when guarding against attacks.

Monster Hunter Wilds Charge Blade Build - EarlyArmor

Moving onto armor, this is where most of the mobility of this build will come from as we will be using a combination of theAlloy ArmorandBalahara Armorset. From the Alloy Set, we use 2 pieces with theAlloy Helmand theAlloy Greaves. From the Balahara Set we use 3 pieces, theBalahara Mail,BalaharaVambraces and theBalaharaCoil.

The 2 pieces from the Alloy Set will give us two levels of theQuick SheatheSkill.

This Quick Sheathe skill provides this build with much needed mobility since both the Charge Blade and to a larger extent the Gunlance have relatively long sheathing times. This skill increases the sheathing speed considerably, and this build utilizes this to its full extent.

The remaining level of Quick Sheathe comes from the 3 pieces of Balahara Set with theEvade ExtenderSkill.

The Balahara Mail piece will provide the 3rd level for the Quick Sheathe skill, making it max level. The Vambraces and the Coil will give 2 levels for the Evade Extender skill, which increases the distance of your evades. This skill will help you in evading the large attacks from those specific monsters that have those pesky unblockable attacks.

The synergy between the Quick Sheathe skill and the Evade Extender skill is what gives this build the mobility boost for Charge Blade and Gunlance users.

Although this particular armor build is quite strong in the early game (Hunter Rank 1-3) with a good defense rating, it is weak to element attacks apart from the water element. It is especially weak against the thunder element which can cause you trouble once you’ve reached a certain point as you progress through the story.

As alternative options to the Armor, if you are comfortable with the evade distance without the evade extender skill, you can switch out the Vambraces and the Coil for something else. A solid option is theQuematricepieces as they will provide you with the fire resistance which will help you as you progress through Chapter 2 (Hunter rank 3-4)

Early GameTalismans

There are a few good choices for talismans for this build. you’re able to simply go for the full defensive option by using theDefense Charm, which will increase your defense stat.

you’re able to also increase your elemental resistance with theFire Charm. Using the Fire Charm will increase your fire resistance, and you can stack this with the Quematrice armor pieces to get even more. Using this setup will help you face against some specific monsters in chapter 2.

you’re able to also try swapping to theThunder Charmtalisman when you face lightning focused monsters while using this armor, as it will provide you with much needed Thunder Resistance.

In terms of drawbacks to look out for, this build mainly focuses on added mobility to the weapons and as such it has no means of helping in the resource management of these weapons. Players using this build will have to keep an eye on their energy phials and the wyvern fire charges for the charge blade and the gunlance respectively. Another thing to note is that the armor set combination used in this build is especially weak to element attacks apart from the water element, so you will need to ensure to evade the big elemental attacks using the added mobility when using this build.

Progression Route

For the progression route using this build, the Charge Blade has a lot of different options depending on what element you want to use and when you want to make the upgrade. The earliest upgrade available will be theUth Duna TreewithUth Valeroje I.

They can upgrade into theRompopolo Treewith theRompo Shielder I, theRey Dau Treewith theRey Astrapi Ior intoHirabami Treewith TheWindthrash Charger I, both of which are strong rarity 3 charge blades offering Thunder Element and Ice Element Respectively. The Windthrasher becomes available after progressing in the story for a little bit.

For the elemental pathway upgrades, you will come across one or two monsters that are resistant to the particular element of your choice whether its water, thunder or ice. It will help to have a secondary weapon that does not deal elemental damage once you’ve upgraded to these weapons but if you want to avoid the problem as you progress, theRompo Shielderis the way to go.

For the Gunlance users, you can upgrade into theQuematice Culebrina IIwith the fire element damage from theQuematrice Treeor theUth Falarmata Iwith the water element damage from theUth Duna Tree.

Like the charge blade, whichever tree you upgrade into will have a monster or two that is resistant to that element type so it is advisable to have a non elemental weapon as a secondary weapon.

Monster Hunter Wilds Charge Blade Build -Final Thoughts

This early game charge blade/gunlance build focuses on improving the mobility of the hunter to deal with unblockable attacks and generally improving your guard where possible. Even though users of this build would rather block than evade, this build will allow you to evade the big attacks that will go through your blocks easily.

For Charge Blade Users, this build’s Rapid morph skill will help you in transitioning between the sword mode and charge mode and add to the overall mobility. This will help you in landing your sword attacks faster and quickly charge up your phials to go into the axe for the big damage. When in the savage axe or power axe mode, you may trigger multi-hit attacks with your axe swing by timing your input buttons when your axe hits the monster. This can sound daunting but is surprisingly easy as you get into the flow of using the weapon.

Also, do not forget that you can also do a sword boost(hold Y or hold Triangle after charging) and a shield boost(hold B or hold Circle after charging) with your energy accumulated phials if you find yourself using the sword mode more often than the axe mode during a hunt, the sword and shield boost will help you increase your attack and defense respectively. Although the super amped elemental discharge attack is the most powerful move in the charge blade’s arsenal, do not feel inclined to use it every time. The weapon is versatile enough to do enough damage and perform well without the need to do a super amped elemental discharge during every hunt.

For Gunlance Users,it is important to keep in mind the shelling type of the gunlance you are using as this will affect the main combo you will be using during your hunts. You will also want to keep an eye on your wyvern’s fire charge so as not to catch yourself trying to get one off in a short window for dealing damage.

Generally, for both weapons, learning the timing of perfect guards is a great way to mitigate damage and trigger power clashes. This is extremely helpful since powerful clashes will lead into huge opportunities for breaking parts or damaging the monster during your hunts.

The armor setup for this build is designed to provide you with mobility to evade big attacks so even though you would rather block, don’t be afraid to sheathe your weapon and run if you see a big attack coming your way.

Lastly, if you are one of the 10 lance mains out there, you can use this armor setup for using the lance as well since it works similar to its cousin the gunlance.
