PublisherAnnapurna Interactiveand Canadian developer Furcula have announced the release date for Morsels. The roguelite game with a creature collector aspect to the gameplay will be available on PC (Steam), PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and Switch on November 18. The reveal came along with a new trailer that showcases the gameplay.
A Transforming Mouse Against Oppressive Cats
Morsels is a new project that features art by Toby Dixon, who has previously worked onAtomicropsandNidhogg 2. Other members of the development team include music composer Sam Webster (Grindstone, Guncho) and programmer Iggy Zuk.
In the game, players take the role of a hungry mouse trying to survive in the sewers by finding scraps. One day, this creature meets a “magical sentient fatberg” who teaches them how to transform into other creatures called Morsels. With this newfound power, it’s up to you to fight and try to overthrow the oppressive cats from the upper layers.

As players explore more, it’ll be possible to acquire new forms called Morsels that can be activated like magical cards at any time. Alternating between them accordingly, depending on what’s the best strategy, will be the key to dealing with the frenetic combat against the variety of enemy waves found along the way.
The new video shows a bit of the experience including a retro-style filter, the complicated battles and various forms that the player may assume through the Morsels system. In particular, it highlights one of the various forms available called Gomsel, which looks like a pink bubblegum that has already been chewed and discarded, but it also shows others in the process.

A Bizarre World Underground
Each Morsel the player gets to collect during the journey has different traits and advantages to keep in mind, and they may mutate through diseases to become more unique. For example, the Gomsel that the trailer highlights is able to use bubbles and block enemies and their bullets by using them. It also has a random chance of dealing critical hits, which may be different for other forms.
One of Morsels' attraction points is its art style. Not only is the game a colorful top-down experience filled with bizarre creatures, but there are also hidden levels with unique elements in graphics and gameplay. According to the developers, these distinctive additions will lead to a lot of replayability and variety to new runs, potentially reducing the repetitiveness of trying to move forward again and again that’s common in the genre.

While the full game is still some months apart at the time of this writing, a demo is currently available on Steam. It allows players to explore the first world, which already has some morsels to use, the first boss, and secrets that are hidden within the areas, providing a good look at the full project before its release. Keep in mind that this trial version of the game will be available for a limited time, though the companies have not provided a specific date for it to leave the store.
