February’s PlayStation Plus selection is here, bringing with it a new batch of Extra and Premium games. Some of the titles this month may surprise you.
PlayStation Plus Game Catalog Unveils February 2023 Highlights
Sony and PlayStation have just released their lineup for this month’s additions to the PlayStation Plus service. Theever-evolving service’s Extra and Premium tiers are getting some new games, and one is just under a year old! Let’s dive into some of our favorites thus far, in no particular order.
Horizon Forbidden West
Forbidden West continues Aloy’s journey as she explores the titular Forbidden West. There, she will encountervarious warrior tribes,deadly weapons, and even deadlier machine beasts. Amongst these, she will discover the value of friendship, as well as an unknown enemy that has thepotential to end the world.
The title only got a few moments in the spotlight, as it contended with the mightyElden Ringjust a few days later. Adding Horizon Forbidden West to the PlayStation Plus service is highly likely there to hype up theupcoming VR Spinoffand DLC.
We gave Horizon Forbidden West an honest 8.4 in ourreview. Its beautiful visuals and gameplay exploration is where it shines the brightest. Great for fans who loved the first title.
Scarlet Nexus
Scarlet Nexusis an incredibly enjoyable action JRPGfrom 2021with very satisfying combat, unique enemy designs, and great character development. It follows the story of soldiers Yuito and Kasane, and players can choose which to play first.
Each of them has its own story that intersects at key moments in the plot. The storytelling is quite good, especially as you get to see issues from different angles. We only get to see the full picture once weplay as both protagonists.
The other highlight is the game’s extremely fun combat. Humanity has developed a way to tap into the mind’s underlying psychic power, elevating certain individuals to have awe-inspiring powers. Some have super speed, invisibility, or even the ability to control flames. Our heroes' main abilities lie in their kinetic psychic powers, being able to fling objects at enemies or lift them into the air.
The Forgotten City
More murder mystery than RPG, The Forgotten City is quite the unique title. Originally set as a mod for Skyrim, it has then been rebuilt from the ground up to be a standalone title, this time set in ancient Rome.
An abandoned underground city lies at the heart of Rome. Upon its discovery by the player, they are flung thousands of years back into the past, right before the city’s destruction. You then discover that the denizens here are trapped in a time loop, doomed to repeat (and forget) their deaths over and over again.
It is thus up to the player to discover the secrets of this eternal punishment by any means necessary. You can coerce, persuade, and intimidate anyone and everyone if you so, please. But be warned that violence will be the end of you and everything around you.
Borderlands 3
Players yet again return to the wild and wacky world of Pandora. There, they will encounter two new villains, though they may not be as charismatic (nor handsome) as Handsome Jack. There, players can choose between one of four vault hunters with unique skills and abilities.
Like all the Borderlands games, the third installment features “bazillions” of guns yet again. This time around, we have even more insane weapons. Who would’ve thought that a small walking gun would be our best friend?
Also trying to compete for attention in the looter shooter genre is Square Enix’sOutriders. Originally released in 2021, developers People May Fly released Outriders to be a third-person alternative to Destiny. The sci-fi shooter incorporated many elements of the looter shooter genre, such as tons of loot, frantic combat, and high customization. And of course, it featured coop.
Players could choose from four different “Outriders” or character classes and further specialize with their skill trees. Players have access to the Devastator, Trickster, Pyromancer, and Technomancer classes.
The title had some bugs back during its original release but has been steadilysupportedsince then.The Worldslayer expansionwas released just last June 30th.

The PlayStation Plus catalog is also adding some PlayStation 1 (and one PS4) classics to the Premium Tier this February. This includes Wild Arms 2, Harvest Moon: Back to Nature, Destroy All Humans!, and fan favorite, The Legend of Dragoon.
