There are two truths that are known among owners: cats can be difficult to find when they aren’t seeking attention and cats are great at ending up in spots in which they have no business being. The developers of Rise of the Ronin are familiar with these feline ways, as they have hidden 100 cats in the game just waiting to get pet by the player. Most of the time, they are not sticking out in plain sight, but with some purrseverance they can all be found. We understand that not everyone has time to look for a hundred cats on their own, so below each region is divided up with screenshots of where each cat is hiding, along with their location on the map.

General Cat Tips

Cats are experts at getting into places they don’t belong and they love hanging out on top of buildings and in watchtowers. Most of the cats are actually easy to reach once their general location is identified, but there are a few cats on lofty perches that require taking advantage of surrounding buildings or cliffs in order to reach them. There are two different behaviors for these cats. Most cats are calm, and you’re able to just walk right up to them and pet them.

Calico cats are trickier. Calicos like to sleep and noisy ronin tend to wake them up. When a calico is awakened it will stand up with its back arched and a yellow cat indicator will appear on-screen. If this happens, the player should go into stealth mode and hold still until the calico goes back to sleep, and then they should stealthily approach it. Approaching an agitated calico will cause the cat to run away, and then the player will need to wait a few minutes for the cat to return and try again.

There are a few reasons to collect cats. Collecting cats counts toward area completion, which can lead to rewards that include skill and attribute points along with items. The Cat Concierge is a function in the ronin’s longhouse, which in exchange for renting out cats, the player can receive numerous items. Lastly, if the player collects all 100 cats there’s a shiny silver PSN trophy waiting for them for those who care about such things.
