Ryan Gosling is ever-famous for doing whatever his role requires of him, going the extra mile for it irrespective of the size of the role. And that’s exactly what he did when he got cast intoPeter Jackson‘s adaptations of Alice Sebold’s best-selling novel,The Lovely Bones.
The movie follows the story of a murdered teenage girl whose spirit watches closely over her family as well as her killer from the afterlife. TheLa La Landstar was cast as the father of the victim, Jack Salmon.
Since he had to play the part of a broken father grieving the demise of his child, Gosling thought of it to be better to put on weight to resemble his character more closely. For this, he took it upon himself to mainly eat endless tubs of ice cream among other things, which reportedly earned him 60 pounds of weight, making him go from 150 pounds to 210.
However, this reasonable thinking ofThe Notebookstar didn’t sit well with filmmaker Jackson, who asked him to lose weight and go back to being the same weight he was initially. The actor disagreed and stood firm with his decision.
All these events reportedly led to Ryan Gosling leaving the movie due to creative differences. Despite having immense dedication that could set up a competition with even actors likeChristian Bale,Gosling had no choice but to leaveThe Lovely Bones.

Ryan Gosling Believed He Was Miscast InThe Lovely Bones
Though this epiphany came a bit late, it did come toRyan Goslingthat he was actually miscast for the role. He was offered the role of the father of two teenage girls inThe Lovely Boneswhen he was, in real life, only in his late 20s. Hence, Gosling believes viewers would have found it challenging to accept him in the role.
Had it come a bit earlier, theBarbiestar would have been saved from all the trouble of gaining the extra 60 pounds that he worked so hard (by eating ice cream) for. Furthermore, he was probably only cast because the producers felt the need to bring in and get a big star attached to such a dark-themed film to prevent it from failing at the box office, considering howMark Wahlbergwas the one who replaced him.
Nonetheless, Ryan Gosling more or less dodged a bullet withThe Lovely Bonesas even casting Wahlberg in his place did no good to the studio. Not only did the movie fail to serve to the level expected but was also brutally scrutinized by critics.
