Last week, we got our first look atWatson’s babyin new photos fromSherlockSeason 4, which also featuredMartin Freemanas the proud father,Amanda Abbingtonas the doting mother, andBenedict Cumberbatchas the seemingly-perplexed Sherlock Holmes. As fans count down the days until the January 1 premiere on the BBC and PBS, a teaser trailer has arrived, which features the tagline, “It’s not a game anymore.” We also see both Holmes and Watson in quite the peculiar predicament.

The show’s officialTwitterreleased this trailer, which shows a seemingly-calmHolmes and Watsonsitting across from each other, in a room which is half-full of water. It’s never stated why this room is full of water, or why both Holmes and Watson are just hanging out here, but perhaps we’ll learn more when subsequent trailers arrive as we get closer to the January 1 premiere. It’s possible that the new villain may have something to do with this submerged room.

The photos released last week also gave us a glimpse at the new villain,Culverton Jones, played by Toby Jones. This character was featured in theArthur Conan Doylestory “The Adventure Of The Dying Detective.” Episode two will be directed byNick Hurran, who was Emmy-nominated for Outstanding Directing for a Miniseries for “His Last Vow”, aSherlockSeason 3 episode. The first episode this season has been confirmed to be called The Six Thatchers.

There are already theories that the title could be a reference to the SirArthur Conan Doylestory The Adventure of the Six Napoleons, which was published in 1904, where the duo investigated a number of crimes related to broken statues. It’s possible this new story could swap out the French military leader for the Great Britain Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, but no official plot details have been given for this episode yet. With the premiere date getting closer and closer, hopefully new plot details will surface soon.

Promising laughter, tears, shocks, surprises and extraordinary cases, Season four will begin with the nation’s favorite detective, the mercurial Sherlock Holmes, back once more on British soil, as Doctor Watson and his wife, Mary, prepare for their biggest ever challenge - becoming parents for the first time. This new season will consist of three 90-minute episodes. The first of the three feature-length episodes inSherlock Season 4will be directed byRachel Talalay, who has worked as a director, producer, and professor in film and television for more than 25 years, having previously directed Doctor Who, The Flash and The Wind in the Willows.
