Amblin Entertainmentis celebrating the30th Anniversaryof two of its biggest hits of all time. These are movies that went onto have a long shelf life, and are both adored by fans. But it seems that theBack to The Future30th Anniversary celebration has dwarfedThe Goonies. That movie is getting released back into theaters, will have a special edition Blu-ray, and a ton of other collectibles that are hitting store shelves this October. ButThe Gooniesisn’t being completely left out in the cold.Amazonhas something very cool planned, and its something collectors are definitely going to want to get their hands on.
Amazonhas started pressing and producing its own line of vinyl records under theAmazonlabel. And on October 9th, they are releasing 5 vinyl soundtracks to some of the 80s most beloved movies. The other releasesAmazonhas planned includes a vinyl soundtrack for the hit 1987 classicDirty Dancing. While it was originally released on vinyl, it has since become a collector’s item. You can pre-order the releasehere. The soundtrack to the 1986Tom CruiseclassicTop Gunis also part of this line-up. You can orderAmazon’s vinyl exclusivehere.
Possibly even bigger than theTop GunandDirty Dancingsoundtracks combine is the soundtrack to 1984’sFootloose, which will also be included in this line-up. You can order theAmazon Exclusive Vinyl here. The final release in this collection sure to excite 80s nostalgia enthusiasts is the soundtrack for 1985’sRocky IV. It has the distinction of being the only Rocky soundtrack that does not feature music by Bill Conti, with a score that was composed by Vince DiCola. It was most notorious for unleashing theJames Brownclassic ‘Living in America’, but it never did quite stay within the social consciousness the way Rocky III’s Eye of The Tiger has after all these years. You can order ithere. It, too, is a 30th Anniversary collector’s edition.
There isn’t too much more information released on any of these vinyl soundtracks, and we don’t get a track listing. Right now, it isn’t known if The Goonies soundtrack will be the score by Dave Grusin or if it will contain all the songs we known and love from the movie. Of course, Cyndi Lauper’s “The Goonies ‘R’ Good Enough” is the most remembered single. But the soundtrack also contains songs from The Bangles, Teena Marie, REO Speedwagon and Luther Vandross. It even contains a second, lesser known Cyndi Lauper track “What a Thrill”. The 2008 re-release contained two bonus songs, a vocal remix ofGoon Squad’s “Eight Arms to Hold You” and a Dance Remix of “The Goonies ‘R’ Good Enough”. “Fratelli Chase” by Dave Grusin was omitted from the soundtrack to make room for more songs. Perhaps it will show up on this new re-release. We’ll have to wait until closer to October 9th to now for sure. So, who’s already clicked the pre-order button? We’ve thrown in the original Cyndi Lauper to help you get pumped for this excited re-release!
