During the podcast,Adam DeVineshared his perspective on the contemporary state of comedies. He expressed his observations that when watching current comedies, the expected humor and comedic elements often seem lacking.

“You watch comedies nowadays and you’re like, this is not a fucking comedy,”DeVine said. “Where are the jokes? Where are the bits? There’s still good [comedy] shows, but movie comedy… it’s hard. My theory: I think Marvel ruined it.”

Adam DeVine pointed out a significant transformation in the movie industry’s comedic landscape. He highlighted that in the past, numerous studios would release multiple comedies annually, leading to a considerable number of around 45 comedy films gracing theaters each year. DeVine emphasized the frequency with which new comedies used to hit theaters, making it almost a weekly occurrence.

Adam DeVine Hits Back At The News Outlet

Addressing the topic, Adam DeVine mentioned that while he appreciates the recognition in Variety, he found the context a bit misleading. He clarified his stance, noting his genuine fondness for Marvel movies and their appeal. DeVine emphasized that his previous comment was centered around the shift in the film industry, where studios, aiming to compete with Marvel’s massive success, have shifted away from producing mid-budget comedies. He expressed nostalgia for the days when such comedies were a common sight in theaters, conveying his yearning for the comedy genre to regain its presence on the big screen.

“As a guy who loves movies and tv it’s cool to be in Variety but this is misleading. I like Marvel and think these movies are cool. I was saying that studios (in trying to compete with Marvel) have stopped making mid budget comedies. I miss seeing comedy in the theaters!”DeVine tweeted.
