Top 5 Upcoming RPGs Of May 2022
Last month we got a classic remaster, with Chrono Cross coming to new platforms and it took our top spot. This month we’re diving into some souls-like action in space, getting into some side-scroller salt, clinging to our sanity with some Lovecraftian horrors, while trying to survive in the vampire world and more. So without further ado, let’s get into the month of May 2022!
Honourable Mention: Source of Madness
Release Date: May 11th (Leaving Early Access)

The roguelite dark action side-scroller Source of Madness will be leaving early access this May. The title is set in a nightmarish odyssey, inspired by Lovecraftian horrors, in a procedurally generated world pitting players against AI machine learning, yes these creatures learn making it all the more terrifying. Playing as a new Acolyte, you will uncover the cosmic mysteries of the Loam Lands and The Tower of Madness, a citadel on the moon.
Source of Madness promises some close-combat magic, a deep exploration system where powerful loot management and skill trees will be its bread and butter. As the game’s landscape is ever-changing, this mysterious land will be both intriguing and have deep arcane lore to uncover, with nine biomes to venture into.
Gaining new rings means more choice when it comes to spells, equipping two at a time. Together with an extensive tree for upgrades, you can customise builds to your playstyle with five classes to choose from. Each run will not only generate new level layouts but also enemy combinations and new unholy beasts to face each playthrough.
Source of Madnesswill be leaving Early Access on May 11th, coming to PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PC.
5. Eiyuden Chronicle Rising

Originally set as a small stretch goal for the Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes, this project grew into something much bigger. Set as a companion game, Eiyuden Chronicle: Rising is set before the events of Hundred Heroes.
Following a massive earthquake that hits a town on the frontier of the Allraan called New Nevaeh, revealing Runebarrows. It becomes an attraction for fortune seekers and merchants from far and wide. But not only wealth seekers are drawn to the site, as among them are three heroes, CJ, Garoo and Isha who wish to rebuild the town.
In this adventure, players will take to the ruins and master the combat Eiyuden Chronicle Rising has to offer. CJ has climbing axes that strike, and his dash offers speed. Isha offers sling sorcery and Garoo has a mighty sword ready to take on foes. With these heroes take on bosses, swapping between character moves and using Link Attacks which can combine their specialities.
Eiyuden Chronicle: Risingwill be launching on Playstation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Playstation 4, Xbox One, Switch, and PC via Steam, Epic Games Store and GOG on May 10th 2022. Also available on Game Pass via Xbox.
4. Warhammer 40,000: Chaos Gate - Daemonhunters

Warhammer 40,000: Chaos Gate – Daemonhunters is a fast-paced turn-basedtactical RPGfollowing the Grey Knights on their mission to put an end to the Bloom. The Bloom is described as an intergalactic plague of cosmic origin being wielded by Chaos who are on a mission to corrupt worlds with this rotting endemic.
Players will get to command their very own base featuring facilities, conduct research into mysteries of arcane nature, and take part in combat missions spanning across worlds. Putting together a squad of Grey Knights choose their skills, abilities, unlock powerful equipment and as well their classes. Each champion can be built with unique standard and advanced classes, as well as being fully customisable with voice, armor, and facial options.
From the looks of it Daemonhunters sets to be a Warhammer meets XCOM by design, but where Daemonhunters deviates is that you’re dealing with the Grey Knights, this means no RNG since these guys are the elite in their field. So far when RNG does play a part is with critical hits. Features such as cover protection, overwatch, suppression and flanking provide a strategic approach. But there are also a number of precision options available when it comes to melee, meaning being front and centre gives you an incentive. Players can use precision attacks to take out enemy weak points to get rid of enemy abilities. Don’t forget to stun them to commit BRUTAL executions.
Warhammer 40,000: Chaos Gate – Daemonhunterswill release on May 5th for PC.

The third-person action RPG Dolmen takes players on a hellish sci-fi cosmic horror experience on Revion Prime. An interdimensional rift opens causing the world to be overrun with large bug-like creatures, that are ready to take apart anyone who comes in contact. Sent down on a mission to the mining station upon the planet, you will exterminate creatures, pick up samples as well as crystals. The game sets to bring a souls-like experience with a futuristic sci-fi twist.
Engage in dynamic combat, with both melee and ranged weapons. Players can attack, block and dodge in order to take down enemies using a close-range melee weapon with a portable shield. You can also imbue your weapon with elemental status effects in Energy Mode, to take advantage of your enemy’s weakness, as you’ll need all the help you can get as there are plenty of gruesome bosses that will challenge your skills. Use Light Wave, Cryo and Acid to take on enemies, and make you’re way through this desolate planet.
Players can craft as well as upgrade gear upon their ship, with an array of weapons. Craft new weapons from the bodies of your fallen foes. Throughout your journey, you will find checkpoints which will allow you to go back to your ship. But who knows what you will encounter in the depths of Revion Prime.

2. Vampire The Masquerade Swansong

Vampire The Masquerade Swansong is a narrative-driven RPG set in the Vampire: The Masquerade universe, part of The World of Darkness tabletop RPG. With a new Prince of the Boston Camarilla gaining power called the Swan, Hazel Iversen intends to keep the vampires behind a Masquerade from humans. However, a power struggle is on the horizon, with plots and murder on the cards. Your job is to find a way to protect your own by investigating the chaos that ensues in Boston.
Players take on the role of three playable characters in Swansong, these characters are vampires who have lived for over a hundred years. Each possesses their own unique abilities and vampiric disciplines which can be upgraded to suit your playstyle whether it be choosing intimidation, seduction or going stealth. Galeb, Emem, and Leysha all have intertwining destinies.
Your actions will have consequences which reflect on both the investigative side and through your social interactions. Unlocking skills will mean being able to gain access to smartphones through hacking, unlocking doors or anything you need to get the job done. You will need to watch that Hunger Gauge as if it gets too low, your cover will be blown. Choose wisely as the fate of the Boston Camarilla will lie in your hands.
Vampire: The Masquerade – Swansongwill be releasing on May 19th for Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and PC via the Epic Games Store.

Taking our top spot this month is the next entry in the souls-like series, its predecessor being Salt and Sanctuary. In Salt and Sacrifice, players will meet a familiar setting however this time taking on the role of a Marked Inquisitor, sentenced to hunt and destroyMages. Mages are powerful beings who have been corrupted by elemental energy, and it is down toMarked Inquisitorsto rid them. But it won’t be easy as Mages can also summon aggressive minions, with only devastation left in their wake.
While you can expect plenty of exploring like in the previous titleSalt and Sanctuary, the sequel brings new Mage Hunts, multi-phase pursuits which extend throughout regions of the map you’ve already explored, resulting in major boss battles. Players will also gain unique materials from Mages, these eld itch remains can be used to craft unique equipment that hone powerful abilities.
Players who want to take part in PvP will be able to create a Marked Inquisitor’s appearance, class, and past crime. You’ll embark on your cursed hunt, but there’s no sense in suffering alone. You can join a variety of factions for multiplayer combat and online interactions. Joining multiplayer factions like the Shroud Alliance and the Blue Heart Runners to call in allies for dynamic encounters.
Characters are fully customisable with a unique feature calledAncestrythat not only determines your overall looks, but your choice ofCrimewhich grants a starting gift, and a variety of starterClassesthat determine your initialEquipment. Classes includeAssassin,Cleric,Fighter,Duelist,Highblade,Paladin,RangerandSage. Salt and Sacrifice will provide the customisation that you’d expect from a Salt game and then some.
Salt and Sacrificewill be available on May 10th for PlayStation 5 and PC.
