During his search for the legendary treasure and besting the undisputed champion in the Pirate Colosseum, Captain Majima and the Goro Pirates have earned their status as a legendary pirate crew during their time inLike a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii. But unbeknownst to the captain, there is another pirate crew, more bloodthirsty and feared than any adversary the Goromaru has sailed against thus far.

This crew is the Amon Pirates, a band of swashbucklers who only make their presence known when a worthy adversary draws them out. Until Majima does something to attract their attention, as is usually the case with optional super bosses, he will remain oblivious to their existence.

Review: Yakuza: Like a Dragon (Xbox Series X)

The most graphically-impressive game in the franchise to date thanks to the Xbox Series X, Yakuza: Like a Dragon is no less than a brilliant reinvention.

The Pirate Colosseum is the main attraction of Madlantis. Majima does need to participate in a few battles here in order to advance the story, but aside from those instances, the Pirate Colosseum can be ignored. It is a good place to level up crew members, earn some money and increase the crew’s reputation, but aside from those few plot battles, it can be ignored. Which the player may be inclined to do, as becoming the undisputed champion happens naturally as part of the main story. But Like a Dragon games are known for side content, and there is an optional secret boss waiting for Majima to catch his interest, which is the captain of the Amon Pirates.

How To Challenge The Amon Pirates

Unlocking the Amon Pirates isn’t terribly difficult, but it does take some time. to open up the battles with this fearsome crew, the Goro Pirates will need to win every single match in the Pirate Colosseum. This can be done gradually, taking on a few of the lower level battles during each visit to Madlantis, or the player can wait until after becoming champion, and then just steamroll all the previous battles. Either approach works, so the recommendation is to handle this task in whatever manner the player finds to be the least tedious. After all the battles are completed, have Majima speak to the receptionist and Majima will learn about this new crew that could rival the Goro Pirates.

This is the most difficult battle the Goromaru has ever faced. This Amon Pirates' ship has the most hit points out of any ship they’ve battled so far, and their offensive abilities are just as impressive. It’s not a bad idea to select a first mate who gives additional repairs, and at this point in the game there should be enough resources to outfit the Goromaru with every available upgrade and the best weapons.

Keeping the Goromaru repaired with functioning weapons should be prioritized, but aside from the increased difficulty, the battle plays out like any of the other naval battles. Selecting a powerful boarding crew is just as important as prepping the ship, as once the crew boards the Amon Pirates' ship the battle will be just like any other ship showdown, just with more powerful and difficult enemies.

Waking up marooned on a tropical island with no memory of who he is, Goro Majima does the only sensible thing. He becomes a pirate captain.

Pirate Captain Duel

After the Goro Pirates defeat the Amon Pirates, their captain will approach Majima. This opens up a new battle in the Pirate Colosseum, where the two captains duel each other one on one. This is the most difficult battle Yakuza Pirate in Hawaii has to offer, but there are steps to make it easier. Majima will have access to his inventory in this fight, so stocking up on healing items isn’t a bad idea. Unleashing shadow Majimas or summoning dark gods can help, but they won’t have the same devastating effect they do in other battles.

Captain Amon is like fighting Sea Dog Majima, who can pull off many of his tricks. Raining daggers and giving Majima a taste of what unleashing shadow minions feels like can end the duel quickly if the player isn’t careful. But by simply balancing defensive tactics with all the offensive skills Majima has unlocked, the fight will be challenging but not unwinnable.

Now that Majima has defeated the Amon Pirates, the Goro Pirates have once again earned the champion title. An achievement/trophy will pop for those who care about such things, and Majima is given the Captain’s Ring as a reward.
